NY Times, June 6, 1968: “For Singles Only” is a mindless, witless romantic drama about the mindless, witless young people who live, swim and boogoloo all day in one of those southern California apartment houses restricted to chamois-skinned unmarrieds.

It stars John Saxon, an actor who looks a lot like Marlon Brando, and Mary Ann Mobley, a former Miss America. Milton Berle plays the social director at the apartment house, and Lana Wood is seen as a girl wronged by a married wolf who sneaks into the singles paradise.

Typical of the values in the film itself is a statement in a publicity brochure about Miss Wood. She is, says the brochure, the younger sister of Natalie and “a talented actress in her own right.”

The movie, which is really an impotent fantasy about the sex life of the young, was produced by Sam Katzman (“Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land,” “Life Begins at 17,” etc.)

Possibly only an elderly movie producer living in southern California could remain alive and yet be so dead to the meaning of the world around him.
